2 Ways Meta Is Improving WhatsApp Groups
If you’ve ever been in a WhatsApp group, you know how chaotic they can be. From members sending tons of unnecessary messages to random people joining who have no business being there—it can get frustrating.Meta is tackling some of these issues and more with two new group chat features. Find out what they are below and how they improve WhatsApp’s group chat experience.
WhatsApp Launches More Group Features
WhatsApp’s group chats are becoming less chaotic. Meta announced a key feature that helps control who can be in a group. But that’s not all—Meta also announced a feature that helps you find groups you have in common with your contacts.
The two features were announced in aMeta blog poston March 21, 2023, which stated:

Last year, we rolled out Communities to help people get the most out of their groups on WhatsApp. Since launching, we’ve wanted to build even more tools for admins and users alike. Today we’re excited to roll out a few new changes we’ve made to make groups more manageable for admins and easier to navigate for everyone.
WhatsApp communities fundamentally differ from WhatsApp groups, mainly because they’re for announcement purposes. But communities came along with additional group admin controls, which WhatsApp continues to improve.

Admins Approve People to Join Groups
Since groups can see a bunch of people joining from aWhatsApp group invite linkor community, it can be challenging to manage group chats. Well, that’s a thing of the past because admins now have control over who can join if enabled in the group settings.
Meta increased the number of people who can join WhatsApp groups. If admins take this role seriously, it could reduce overcrowding in groups. Admins can also ensure that people aren’t joining just for the sake of it. They will be able to see potential members under a tab calledPending participantsand choose to accept or reject membership.

More importantly, admin approvals help protect the privacy of group members, as their contact details are not hidden in the group.
Find Out What Groups You Have in Common With a Contact
If you’re a member of multiple groups, you may periodically forget certain group names you want to share with others. When that happens, searching for the contact name of someone you know for sure is in that group will bring up the group name. This makes sharing groups and remembering groups easier.
WhatsApp will roll out the features globally in the weeks to come.

WhatsApp Community Group Chats Are Getting Better
Group chats can get a bad rap. Meta’s improvements for community group chats improve the overall group chat experience. They allow you to connect with friends over the groups you have in common. And finally, no more problematic people who will hog up the chat.
WhatsApp now makes it easy to find out if someone has left a group.
