Dawn has always been one of the most popular and beloved female characters from thePokémonanime. Her determined, headstrong, and optimistic personality was contagious, and on top of it,she is a truly skilled trainer and coordinator too. One of Dawn’s character traits that really stands out is her fashion sense. From the very first time she’s seen trying to bring a massive suitcase full of clothes for her journey, it’s evident thatfashion is a staple of her persona.
Throughout the whole Diamond and Pearl seasons in the anime, she’s seen wearing several different outfits, all with different styles and purposes. Not only did she twitch her pink contest dress every time she entered a new competition, but she also changed her regular clothes for something more suited to a specific scenario.

Dawn also fixed her long blue hair into matching styles to her outfits, even though she usually kept her signature yellow barrettes.
All of Ash’s Pokémon Love Interests, Ranked From Worst to Best
Ash has traveled with a lot of girls over the years, but which of these companions might harbor romantic feelings for him, and who’s the best match?
10The Piplup Costume
This adorable dream outfit gave Dawn an outfit themed after her partner Pokemon
This cute outfit is seen in the episode “Malice in Wonderland!”. Technically,it isn’t an actual fit Dawn wore in reality, because it was all part of a dream Ash’s party was having as a product of Mismagius’ Hypnosis. In said dream, Dawn wears this Piplup costume in a contest battle against her own mother, Johanna. She, of course, commands her own Piplup in the battle and ends up winning. The overall blue color and the matching looks with her signature Pokémon make Dawn look incredibly charming in this fit, and it would’ve been amazing if it was a thing she wore in real life.
9The Grand Festival Dress
Dawn’s Contest outfits are full of frills and flair
This is the outfit Dawn chose to wear at Sinnoh’s Grand Festival, where she ended up as the runner-up after losing against her fated rival, Zoey. The outfit is first seen in the episode “Last Call—First Round!”, and it’s a complete change from Dawn’s usual pink dress she’s seen in for regular contests. It’s mostly a light yellow, and it features a ruffled layered white underskirt that matches her long white gloves and high heels. The huge pink bow in the front and ruffles around the neck area wink to Victorian fashion.
Additionally to her outfit, Dawn also changed her hairstyle to a high curled ponytail accessorized with a bow that matched the one on her dress. She kept her usual strands of hair on both sides of her face, a signature of hers.

8The Cheerleader Outfit
This super pink outfit uniform perfectly complimented Dawn’s team
First seen in “O’er the Rampardos We Watched!”,Dawn’s cheerleading fit was a hot topic of discussion back in the day. Many questioned if having Ash’s companion do more than just sit on the bleachers and comment on the battle was really necessary, but, regardless, Dawn’s cheerleader outfit became iconic quickly. The fit consists of a matching sleeveless pink top and plaid skirt with white and blue details, accompanied by light pink pom-poms. She wears her usual day-to-today hairstyle, minus the hat. The outfit is so nice that, eventually, herPokémon wear it too!
7The Buneary-version of Her Contest Dress
Dawn’s custom hairstyle in this outfit was too cute to handle
In almost every contest Dawn participated in, she wore a slight variation of her pink dress. Sometimes she added gloves, or extra bows or bands, or she simply changed her hairstyle. However, the cutest version has got to be the Buneary fit first seen in “Battling The Generation Gap!”. For this variation, Dawn addeda fluffy edge to the dress’ skirt that resembles Buneary’s fur, and she styled her hair in pigtails adorned with two fluff balls of the same material. These two simple alterations made her look fabulously cute and, much like the Piplup costume, seeing Dawn match with her Pokémon adds an extra appeal.
6The Piplup Fantasy Outfit
In the first episode, “Following a Maiden’s Voyage!”, before Dawn starts her journey, she fantasizes about her career witheach of Sinnoh’s starter Pokémon. In each daydream, she’s seen wearing a different outfit, but the green one in her Piplup fantasy is, by far, the most stylish one. It’s different, elegant, simple and modern, which looks amazing on her.
The green one in her Piplup fantasy is, by far, the most stylish one. It’s different, elegant, simple and modern, which looks amazing on her.

It’s a maxi-length light lime-green long-sleeved dress, with details that make it look as if she’s wearing a crop top instead. It hasn’t got any ornaments on it, which is unusual for Pokémon fashion, but that’s precisely why it is so great.
The neat, delicate look is complemented by white heels that look very similar to the ones she wears with her Grand Festival dress. Her hair is styled like her day-to-day look, excepting the hat.

5The Lolita Outfit
This adorable outfit changes Dawn’s aesthetic
A similar case to her Piplup costume, thisLolita outfit is only seen in thePokémon: The Riseof Darkraiend credits. It is -allegedly- something Dawn wore in reality, but the context is unknown. It might’ve been one of her choices for the Alamos Contest. In any case, the outfit is incredible and it makes Dawn look super charming. It’s very similar looking to the maid outfit she wore in “Tanks for the Memories!”, but a little more age-appropriate.
The Lolita outfit seems to follow the gothic aesthetic, being composed of only black or white pieces, and sporting knee-high boots, long puffy sleeves, ruffles, and ribbons everywhere. The cutest part is her hair, which is worn down, with black ribbons replacing the yellow barrettes.

4ThePokémon JourneysContest Outfit
The blue ombre dress with moon accents fits Dawn’s vibe
Much like every other major character in the Pokémon anime, Dawn makes a brief appearance in theJourneysseries. She shows off her contest abilities to Chloe in “A Midsummer Night’s Light!”, and while doing so, she wears a new, heavily-accessorized short blue-gradient dress.Dawn’s usual triangular barrettes are replaced with moon-shaped ones, with little pearls and a star hanging from them. This piece is repeated in the center of the collar of the dress, and another moon charm accompanies a big dark blue ribbon at the waist of the dress.
The dress is accompanied by blue heeled Mary Jane shoes, and short gloves that match in color. The whole outfit seems coordinatedand so fitting in the Pokémon world, and Dawn looks super cute in it.

3The Everyday Outfit
This iconic look was good enough for the original game, and the anime
Dawn’s regular outfit is iconic. It’s almost an exact replica of the one her game counterpart wears, except that Dawn’s scarf is much shorter, and she wears a small backpack instead of the huge yellow bag the game’s protagonist carries around. Still, the main outfit is the same, a black shirt accompanied by a pink mini-skirt and matching pink boots. It’s sucha feminine look that is also so suited to adventure. Black is a color that became much more common in the design of the female characters’ outfits, and it’s possibly because it looked so good on Dawn in the first place.
2The Platinum Outfit
A cozier spin on Dawn’s original outfit, this look is iconic
Another outfit taken directly from the games, but the simplicity of this one makes it a bit better than the previous one. Plus, since the Sinnoh region is supposed to be a chillier environment, this winter-like outfit feels just right. Even though the black is gone, the deep pink of the dress-coat fits Dawn just as nicely and makes the color of her hair stand out. All the white accessories that now match, the scarf, the hat, and the thigh-high socks make the outfit look more put together. Even ifDawn only wore it in a couple of episodes, the outfit still remains a classic now.

1The Hearthome Collection Dress
The simplest of them all but beautiful
In the episode “Arriving in Style!”, Dawn once again matches her Buneary for the Hearthome Collection competition. This outfit might be the simplest of them all, butthat’s also why it’s the most beautiful. The dainty look is composed by a long boat-neck sleeveless light blue dress with big light yellow bow on the back, and the only accessory in this outfit is an elegant pearl chunky necklace.
This is one of the few times Dawn is seen with her hair out of her face, and without any accessories on it. It’s a perfect complement to the graceful feel of the whole look, and it makes her seem more mature and poised. It shows the incredible range of outfits this character can pull off.
